La Plagne Montalbert

La Plagne Montalbert is part of the Paradiski area, which together with Les Arcs, offers a huge variety of pistes, environment and terrains to suit all needs. It is an excellent intermediate resort – 85% of the pistes are blue or red. It also has some good nursery slopes for beginners and some extensive off-piste areas for experts.

La Plagne consists of 10 interlinked villages spread over several sides of a mountain. The central purpose built areas of Plagne Centre, Plagne Villages, Aime 2000 and Plagne Soleil are offset against the beautiful traditional villages of Montalbert, Montchavin, Les Coches and Champagny. Just below the main central area is Plagne 1800 and just above is Belle Plagne.

The resort of Montalbert was built in 1980 around an old traditional farming village and still retains a lot of the traditional charm. At the same time, it benefits from the more recently built infrastructure of the ski domain.  A modern gondola lift carries you up the mountain. The lift links Montalbert to the whole La Plagne and Paradiski area for access to 425km of pistes!

The villages are linked by a variety of pistes and terrains. There is an extensive snow-canon network to guarantee good conditions, even in the worst years. The resort management company have steadily upgraded the lift systems in recent years. As a result, there are now several gondolas and many high speed chair lifts which carry you up as far as the glacier at 3250m.

There are pistes for all standards. Firstly, the easy greens (10 in total) and nursery slopes. Secondly, long, sweeping blues (69 in total) for the cruisers to travel from one side of the resort to the other. Lastly, the resort also has some challenging reds (33 in total) to get you warmed up and 18 blacks to challenge the best!

In addition, the resort is well known for it’s huge off-piste areas and as a result it’s a haven for snowboarders and off-piste demons to explore. Together with the half pipe, boarder cross and snowpark what more could you need?

Property for Sale in Montalbert

We have a luxury chalet for sale in the village as well as two building plots for development. In addition, we have a beautiful family property on the market in a peaceful hamlet, 2km above the village.

Village Amenities

There are many bars and restaurants in the village covering a variety of cuisines. You can choose from traditional local food, pizza and more luxurious French restaurants.  Some of the bars remain open late into the night during the winter season, with live music. However, we like to describe the nightlife of Montalbert as being like a “country pub”.  It’s not so noisy and busy to attract the clubbers. There are plenty of places to see and go but you can usually find a table to sit down and a noise level to suit you if you prefer the more quiet places.

There is a ski school, several ski hire shops, lift pass office and tourist office. In addition you will find plenty of other shops catering to the needs of visitors – from clothing stores and equipment stores to bakeries, a hairdresser and a small supermarket. 

The tourist office arranges frequent events during the winter season (“animation”) including the torchlight descents by the instructors of the ski school and fabulous firework displays.

During the summer, there are numerous marked walks and trails which take you across the mountains as well as an organised “animation” programme in the village itself to keep adults and kids busy with all kinds of activities.
